Comprehensive overview of LangQuest's core features and capabilities

LangQuest Features Overview

LangQuest provides a comprehensive suite of features designed specifically for collaborative text translation and language preservation. This page details the core capabilities that make LangQuest an effective platform for community-driven translation efforts.

Core Platform Features

Projects and Quests

Projects serve as the organizational backbone of LangQuest, allowing communities to structure their translation efforts around specific books, chapters, or thematic content.

  • Project Management: Create and manage translation projects with customizable settings
  • Member Management: Control who can participate in translation efforts through invites and requests
  • Content Organization: Structure resources hierarchically for efficient workflow
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor translation completion based on contributions and approvals
  • Public and Private Projects: Projects can be open to all users or restricted to invited members

Quests break down projects into manageable translation tasks, making the work more accessible.

  • Task Assignment: Individual translation challenges within larger projects
  • Quest Download: Download quests for fully offline use, then sync when back online
  • Quest Export: Export completed quest translations for distribution or review

Quest versioning

Multiple translators can work on the same chapter or pericope independently. Each person's recording is kept as a separate version.

  • Multiple versions per quest: Different users create their own versions of the same content, all visible in one place
  • Version picker: When multiple versions exist, a drawer shows each version with the creator's name, creation date, and download status
  • Create new versions: Start a fresh recording for any chapter or pericope, even when other versions already exist
  • Source indicators: Each version shows whether it lives locally, is synced, or exists only in the cloud
  • Download per version: Download specific versions for offline use without affecting others

FIA (Familiarize, Internalize, Articulate) guided translation

FIA is a structured, step-by-step translation methodology integrated directly into LangQuest. It breaks Scripture passages into pericopes (thematic passage segments) and walks translators through a guided process with rich media support.

How the FIA workflow works

  1. Choose a book from the FIA book grid, which mirrors the Bible book layout
  2. Select a pericope (a passage segment, like Mark 1:1-13) to begin working
  3. Follow six guided steps, each with its own text instructions and audio narration:
    • Hear and Heart: Listen to and internalize the passage
    • Setting the Stage: Understand the historical and cultural context
    • Defining the Scenes: Break the passage into scenes
    • Embodying the Text: Enter into the characters and narrative
    • Filling the Gaps: Address translation challenges and missing context
    • Speaking the Word: Produce and refine the oral translation
  4. Use the built-in Bible reader to reference the source text alongside the guide
  5. Browse media resources: Images, maps, and key terms linked to each passage

FIA offline support

FIA content downloads automatically in the background for offline use. When you open a pericope, LangQuest queues downloads for step text, images, maps, and audio narration. All FIA content works fully offline once cached.

FIA versioning

FIA pericopes support the same versioning system as Bible chapters. Multiple translators can each create their own version of a pericope, and a version picker drawer shows all available recordings.

Multimedia asset support

LangQuest recognizes that effective translation requires rich contextual information beyond text.

  • Blocking: Reported content can be hidden from your view
  • User Blocking: Block specific users from appearing in your feed

Notifications and Invites

  • Project Invitations: Receive and respond to invitations to join projects
  • Join Requests: Request to join private projects; owners approve or deny
  • Languoid Link Suggestions: Notifications when your custom language entry can be linked to a known language code
